WordPress has outgrown it’s usage as just a blogging tool to a platform to build large websites and web apps. WordPress makes it easier to build, launch and maintain websites in the matter of a few hours. The case is no different for ecommerce website. A t-shirt store or an eBook library, you can build your own ecommerce website using WordPress with really a small effort. All we need to do is to choose the right plugins/themes and configure them to make it work for our purpose. But.. yeah there is a but, and that is, the market it already overcrowded with ecommerce plugins and themes. Choosing the right one for the job is not really an easy task as it sounds.
We, at Fidiz have been working on WordPress projects and professional website design for three years now and we already have delivered a number of ecommerce websites in WordPress. Choosing the right plugin is still a great headache for us. I went to the mother of all teachers – Google, for advice. She found me some great discussions in LinkedIn where experts share their experiences with ecommerce plugins. But there again, too much of information! So here I am trying to list out some highlights I found in the discussions, that will help you (and me) to choose the right ecommerce plugin in the future.
1. WooCommerce
2. ECWID
3. eStore
4. Cart66
5. WP E-Commerce
Some other plugins
Looks like the real winners are WooCommerce and ECWID. Are you a WordPress Developer? Do you have any experiece with eCommerce integration in WordPress. Please share your thoughts with us.
